Remember the faithless Cardinal Martini? Prayerful invocation of the Bux Protocol has resulted in God closing his eyes forever, and no one seems to care. Check out this fitting and beautiful send-off from Libero, translation courtesy of Rorate Caeli. Also check out this bit from HuffPo asking if Martini was the “last liberal bishop” (what’s that word the kids use? LOL?). The money line:
“If there was a young Martini in the church today . . . he would not be made a bishop or cardinal.”
Martini’s final act of gratuitous treachery was thepost mortem release of a vicious interview brimming with wounded pride over his failed ambitions. A stunning final act of cowardice for a revolting and unrepentant little quisling.
The biological solution proceeds apace!
The Huffington Post article refers to him as a “papal candidate”? Is that just them bloviating or is there truth to that statement? Radical Progressive Catholic has to be an oxymoron…
At first I thought it was true, since I remember that JPII was elected as a compromise between a conservative and archleftist. But that archleftist was Benelli, not Martini. “Papabile” does not appear anywhere on his Wikipedia page. Maybe they mean he was a candidate for the anti-Pope?
Leftists dreamed of a Martini papacy for a while: e.g I’m pretty sure he was prominent in the 1994 first edition of Peter Hebblethwaite’s The Next Pope. By 2005 I don’t think any serious observer imagined he was papabile, but of course there were unserious observers around, too.

That mentions Martini. I suppose there was some truth to it after all.
It wouldn’t surprise me if wikipedia included the views of unserious observers. Heck, it would surprise me if it didn’t.
