Enemies of the cross of Christ

For many walk, of whom I have told you often (and now tell you weeping), that they are enemies of the cross of Christ; Whose end is destruction; whose God is their belly; and whose glory is in their shame; who mind earthly things.

– Philippians 3:18-19

Today is Holy Wednesday, in which we commemorate the betrayal of Jesus by one of his own. Fittingly enough, today was also the day when large numbers of Christians publicly expressed their betrayal of the cross of Christ (or continued to express, rather) in order to align themselves with the spirit of the age by agitating for gay “marriage.” I witnessed this today among my own friends, many of whom rushed to change their Facebook profile pictures (in concert with about ten million other “critical thinkers” who all happen to think and dress and talk exactly alike all the time without any apparent coordination) to a giant equals sign, for, yanno “marriage equality.” Because, they say, Jesus was all about equality, tolerance, and acceptance.

Thank God we’ve got the dumbest generation of spoiled, incompetent narcissists in the history of the world to tell us how Jesus really feels about gay “marriage.” I guess Genesis 18-19 was a giant head fake.

Let us take some time this week to do penance on behalf of these useful idiots (emphasis on the latter word), the better to console the sacred heart of our Lord, wounded as it is by the sins and ingratitude of men.

  1. I’m really freaking out about this gay marriage thing. I know the sodomites will be after me for home schooling my children (without properly homosexualizing them) before my unborn developing 5th graduates. I know that if I finish my CPA and refuse to do some sodomite couple’s joint taxes the IRS, or maybe the National Guard (i.e. Little Rock 1957) will be there to utterly destroy me.

  2. My sentiments exactly, Earl. The mad rush to jump on this misdirected bandwagon does more than just puzzle me; it depresses me. Every day brings news of another politician–many of them self-styled conservatives–falling over themselves to come out in “support” of gay marriage. And if you express even the mildest reservations about where all this undeliberated social engineering might lead, you are immediately tarred a “bigot.” What kind of world will out children and grandchildren grow up in?

  3. Speaking of Sodom, here is 2 Peter 2:4-16 (ESV). Peter describes to a T the age we live in; and shows that God knows how to rescue the righteous:

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority.

Bold and willful, they do not tremble as they blaspheme the glorious ones, whereas angels, though greater in might and power, do not pronounce a blasphemous judgment against them before the Lord. But these, like irrational animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed, blaspheming about matters of which they are ignorant, will also be destroyed in their destruction, suffering wrong as the wage for their wrongdoing. They count it pleasure to revel in the daytime. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their deceptions, while they feast with you. They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! Forsaking the right way, they have gone astray. They have followed the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved gain from wrongdoing, but was rebuked for his own transgression; a speechless donkey spoke with human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

    • Continental Op:

Thank you for posting this scripture, which has the ironic ability to comfort the downcast Christian (even while it scares the dickens out of the unbeliever. At least it should).

I have been visually bummed for the past several days, as the Proposition 8 case was heard by the Supremes on Tuesday, and the D.O.M.A. case on Wednesday. Somehow I know that all of the decisions made by the Court will either be incrementally bad, catastrophically bad, or so obtuse that regular folk won’t even know exactly what the decisions mean. In other words, our Team doesn’t win battles anymore; we just have to lose and then lump it the best that we can.

In the movie (or should I say documentary?) called Idiocracy, there is a scene where we see the county hospital. On the side of the building, in letters too big for the building, is a neon sign with the words “God Memorial Hospital.”

Why is God allowing Christendom to turn into a giant, open-air God mausoleum?

I am a Bible teacher in a Christian school, for Pete’s sake, and I know for a fact that 85-90% of my students, and probably 60% of the staff, think that I am completely off of my freakin’ nut.

But they all know which teams are in the Sweet Sixteen, because that is important.

Thanks again for posting the section from II Peter. Love that passage. The fact that you quote from the English Standard Version tells me you’re some manner of Presbyterian or Calvinist guy, yes?

      • Not exactly Presbyterian or Calvinist, but close enough I guess; a friend recommended the ESV, and I respected his judgment, and now I prefer it, although I’m familiar with a number of translations.

      • We use the ESV at my Calvinist church (Orthodox Presbyterian Church). I find it easy to understand the language, so it makes for an excellent study bible, but it lacks the power and beauty of the KJV. I have read Romans over and over in the ESV and other translations, but the only time Romans brings tears to my eyes is when I read it in the KJV.

  4. This reminded me of you guys. [Link removed]

[Editor: You were right to be suspicious, Earl. After clicking on the link my computer was attacked by malware and it took half an hour to clean it out.

Oncertain, you're on report. One more stunt like this and we may have to ban you. I say "may" because this is a team enterprise; one man can't speak for the entire committee.]

    • That was a youtube link, wasn’t it? Not sure how your computer managed to get malware from that. In any case that was certainly not my intention.

I will admit it might have appeared as brain malware to you.

  6. Peace be with you men and women of true faith in the commandments of God Most High and Merciful,

May He bless and deliver you from your travails even as the harbingers of hellfire champion their corruptions on earth.
This is Prophet Lot’s experience as the Quran tells it (ch. 11 v. 77-83):

When our messengers (the youthful angels of the Lord) came to Lot he was aggrieved on their account because he felt powerless to protect them, and he sighed: “This is a distressful day!”
And the people (of Sodom) came rushing towards him for they had long been practising abominations. Lot said to them: “Oh my people! Here take my daughters, they are purer for you (if ye would marry)!” Fear God and do not shame me with respect to my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man?! They replied: “Surely you know we have no need of your daughters; you know very well what we want!”
Lot said: “If only I had the power to suppress you or that I could turn to some authority for support” And his angelic guests said to him: “Oh Lot! We are messengers from thy Lord! By no means shall they overwhelm you! Now travel with your family while a part of the night remains, but let none of you look backwards; but your wife, to her will happen what shall occur to these people. Morning is their appointed hour; is not the morning nigh?
When Our decree issued forth We turned the cities upside down and rained on them brimstones hard as baked clay, layer upon layer of it.
A sign from your Lord, nor is punishment ever far from those who will engage in abominations.
